Welcome to the Loma Linda University Department of Anesthesiology. Our expert team of clinicians work together in an outstanding academic department. We are fortunate to be in the heart of beautiful Southern California, in the area known as the Inland Empire. Loma Linda is about halfway between Los Angeles and Palm Springs along Interstate 10. This location means we are less than 60 miles to surfing at the beach, camping in the desert, skiing in the mountains, or catching a play in Los Angeles. While the closest major airport (ONT) is just 20 miles away, there are also six major airports within an hour's drive.
Our residency training program provides broad general and strong anesthesiology experience. Loma Linda University Medical Center is a tertiary / quaternary care medical center serving as a Level 1 trauma center for injured children and adults. Loma Linda University is world renowned for cardiovascular care in adult and pediatric cardiac surgery. The first infant heart transplant was done at Loma Linda University in 1985. We have excellent pediatric anesthesia training; 30% of the caseload of a typical resident is in the field of pediatrics. We also offer one of the only combined Anesthesiology / Internal Medicine training programs in the country. After residency, additional training can be obtained via fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesia, Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, Regional Anesthesia – Acute Pain Medicine, Liver Transplant, or Critical Care Medicine within the Department. Additionally, a multidisciplinary Chronic Pain Medicine Fellowship is offered within our university.
Our department currently has over 60 attending physicians, more than 60 residents, and 9 fellows. Members of our faculty are nationally renowned for their academic and clinical excellence. We have numerous faculty members involved with organized medicine. We also support and have active research in both clinical and basic science, with very active resident and medical student research efforts. Residents and fellows have won several research awards and have presented at national specialty meetings such as SOAP, SCCM, SPA, SCA and ASA. There are numerous opportunities to work with faculty on clinical research projects. Applicants to our residency program find friendly faculty who are dedicated to resident education and a healthy atmosphere in which to learn and train.
